Listed on the London Stock Exchange, Smiths employs approximately 16,000 colleagues in over 50 countries.Job DescriptionThe Field Service Technical Specialist is responsible for providing hands-on service and site assistance on John Crane Turbomachinery products supporting compressor manufactures and end user customers.As part of the Global Turbomachinery team the incumbent will support the company drive to expand our portfolio of Services & Products in the Turbomachinery market in accordance with the corporate objectives, strategy, and plans. The F.S. Technical Specialist travels extensively in the US and abroad.
  • Onsite Dry Gas Seal removal, strip, inspection, rebuild and installation into Turbo
compressors.
  • Identify and assist customers with upgrades of all Turbomachinery products.
  • To understand and report upon the commercial opportunities of each customer site
visited through the use of site surveys, the commercial opportunity sheet and
customer interaction.
  • Provide training to customers on gas seal and system related subjects.
  • Troubleshooting on all Turbomachinery products.
  • The role will include extensive levels of travel (up to 80%), sometimes to remote areas both onshore and offshore and outside of the US if required.
  • To create a comprehensive customer report outlining all site activities including,
observations, recommendations and actions.Qualifications
  • High School diploma or equivalent required, college preferred.
  • Minimum 3 years’ field service experience.
  • Must have prior experience with turbomachinery (compressors and turbines).
  • Operational gas seal inspection and build hands-on experience
  • Good communication skills.
  • Willingness and proven capability to travel at short notice
  • Capable of reading general assembly drawings
  • The ability to work under pressure and take a methodical approach to work is a plus.
  • Must have license to operate a motorize vehicle and the ability of driving overseas
  • Effective written and oral communication skills
  • Proven ability of year-round on call support
  • Experience working for a global company and working in a diverse work environment
